KORONA KOMBAT

For this assignment we were told to demonstrate our understanding of the basics of After Effects with the various tools we were taught in class

Research:

Naruto Shippuden
Naruto Shippûden: Ultimate Ninja 4 (2007)

Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat II (rev L3.1) : Midway : Free Download, Borrow, and ...

My main research consisted of video games I played with my cousins when I would go over to their house as a child. As of today I still get excited when my nephews and nieces invite me to play these sort of games with them! So I figured what if I put myself inside a game like this?

Editing:

The editing bit was easy but very time consuming. I had to select my whole body on each frame because the auto masking isn't perfect. Each frame there was a irregularity I had to fix and my laptop doesn't possess the ram or fire power to handle the masking of a long clip so I selected a small portion around 80 frames, just a bit over 3 seconds, duplicated the video and reversed it then put them together as a nest and extended it for about 30 seconds. Had I had a pc with better ram maybe I could have used more effects because my laptop kept crashing and I had to redo this 3 times.

I also filmed my sister wearing gloves and using a spray to further show the combat against Corona but the masking couldn't handle it so I just stuck with the the 'players' wearing masks but I would of much preferred to use my sister.

The shadow effects on After Effects and Premiere Pro weren't natural looking so I wish I had filmed my character in a diagonal angle then painted the body black and placed it under their feet to emanate a shadow in the same way you would create an artificial shadow of a figure in a studio still with photoshop.

Afterthoughts:

I believe given time I could have handled this project so much better but this piece and the way I handled the editing really taught me how stop motion works and other forms of animation too. It's something that takes a lot of time but can be done in various forms and has also sparked my interest in mixing stop motion with moving image and with vfx to see where it can lead me and what possibilities we can reach as content creators with mixing these various forms of technology.
